Presbyterians in Paradise
The 2005 Mt. LeConte Hiking Adventure November 17-19, 2005

At 6,593 feet elevation, Mount LeConte is one of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park's highest peaks. When the movement to establish a national park in the Smokies was in full sway, a tent camp was erected where LeConte Lodge now stands to entertain visiting dignitaries from Washington. The first Lodge was built in the 1920’s. LeConte Lodge is now under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service. LeConte Lodge is the only place in the Smokies where a visitor can sleep overnight on a mountaintop in a snug, permanent structure with hot and hearty meals on tap.
This year fourteen brave members of The Presbyterian Church made this journey. Some photos of our journey are shown below. An abbreviated journal will be added soon.
