PRESBYTERIANS ON TOUR for adventure, travel and fun -- join fellow adventurers for brunch and an informational meeting about Presbyterians on Tour after church on August 17th. Help us plan trips for Christmas, spring and 2009. Lunch will be potluck with the entrée furnished. (A-H salad or fruit, I-S vegetable or side, T-Y dessert.) Please sign up on the pew pad if you wish to join us! Our first trip will be to Keeneland in Lexington, KY on October 16th. Please see the posters in the Tenth Street lobby for information about reservations.

PARENTS NIGHT OUT this month is hosted by Gary and Sherri Spichiger (1425 Spring Valley Ct.). The date is set for Friday, August 15 from 6:00-9:00pm. Please RSVP for childcare at the church to 783-8007 or 843-4707. Guests may bring an appetizer or beverage to share.

NEW DIRECTORY   Photographs will be taken this Fall for our brand new Members’ Directory. On Sunday a sign-up table will be set up at the Chapel Landing to make appointments for a professional photo session with the company which is taking pictures. Please stop by for information and to make an appointment for your family. The signups will continue each Sunday through September 7, and pictures will be taken over several days in September.

A Lock-In will be held on Friday, August 22nd at 5:30pm to Saturday, August 23rd at 8 a.m. for our 2008-09 Confirmation Class (8th grade and up). Please e-mail Beth Walden-Fisher (beth.fisher@bgpres.org) for more information.

The Art Board extends a call to children and youth of the church for their first annual Art Show, to be hung in the Fellowship Hall on Sept. 25-26. Entries must be framed or mounted appropriately and ready to be hung. Include your name and the title of the work on the back of the artwork. For Parents and Children Grades 2-5 - Special Classes will be offered on the Sacraments on the next three Sundays (in Room 15 at 9:00am).  On Sunday August 17:  Circle of the Holy Eucharist—this lesson shows where the Lord’s Supper “fits” into the Sunday Service and teaches its significance using Scripture.

ADULT EDUCATION  Genesis:  Interpretation Bible Study will be held in the 10th Street Parlor taught alternately by Curtiss Long, Matthew Covington, Beth Walden-Fisher and others.

2nd annual Ice Cream Social at the Bellewood Center on Aug. 24- We’ve been invited to join them in a fun-filled summer afternoon! Besides having great food and Chaney’s Dairy Barn furnishing the ice cream, this event poses a wonderful opportunity for contributors to Bellewood to see how their generous donations aid the Bellewood Center. Visitors will be able to meet the staff at Bellewood as well as the young men who reside at the campus. They have organized several activities that give everyone a chance to interact with the young gentlemen, and you will be able to tour the facility to see where your assistance is going.

Beginning September 7th, we are planning on re-starting our UNIFORM LESSONS CLASS FOR MEN during the church school hour.  If you are interested in a solid Bible Study that will take you through a great deal of Scripture in a three-years cycle, please stay tuned!

PRESBYTERIAN COFFEE PROJECT – The Peacemaking Task Force announces that on Sunday, August 17 and Sunday, August 24 orders will be taken for Fairly Traded coffee, tea, cocoa, chocolate bars, and snack items.  Orders will be taken in Fellowship Hall during breakfast and prior to the Worship Service.  We urge you to participate in this interfaith program. Orders need to be pre-paid, so please bring your checkbook or cash. 

ART NEWS All are invited to view our First Annual Church-Wide Photography Exhibit on display from August 8 – September 20 in Fellowship Hall.

Morning Prayer on Fridays is at 10:00am. We will use two different kinds of prayer practices that we have been/will be learning together:  Lectio Divina and Centering Prayer.  If you are new to these ancient spiritual practices you are not alone—this is a brand new thing to most of us.  Come and learn and grow closer to God through prayer.  Hot tea will be served and candles lit!

MONDAY AFTERNOON WITH THE ARTS August 18thA History of Western Music, Part Twenty-Seven  Mozart:  Bastien and Bastienne  Join us as we continue our major study of Western music in a historical perspective. Today we see a performance of Mozart’s early opera, Bastien and Bastienne, composed when he was 12 years old, performed by the Salzburger Marionnettetheater. Program length 90 minutes.

Copies of the Summary of the 218th GENERAL ASSEMBLY which was held in San Jose, California in June are available in the church office to anyone who is interested in reading a brief (16-page) report.

MEDIA INFORMATION Headsets for the hearing impaired are available on Sundays and may be obtained from an usher prior to worship. If, on Sunday you have a fussy baby or are coughing, etc., the worship service may be viewed from the parlor via television (across the hall from the Sanctuary). PLC NEWS The Preschool Learning Center classes began August 11th! There are still spots open in each class for 3 and 4 year olds. If you know someone who would like more information, please have them call Linda Hollifield at 746-0313. Supplies are also needed! If you happen to be shopping the back-to-school sales, the PLC can use Elmer’s Glue Sticks, Crayola Washable Markers, Kleenex and apple juice! Thank you.

ORGAN RENOVATION Campaign 2008 To date, pledges toward the project amount to $171,806.52. Some sets of pipes have already been removed for repair. The organ is still functioning, but some of the brightness will be noticeably absent. The major part of the removal will occur after the Liturgical Arts Festival in the Fall.

JERRE FITTS, CHURCH HISTORIAN, and a committee of volunteers are compiling a directory of members of this congregation who have served in the United States military – any an all branches in both war and peacetime. The interview histories of these members of the Bowling Green Presbyterian Church will be written and placed in a book in the newly refurbished History Room. If you have been in the military and are willing to be interviewed for placement in this book please contact Mary Lucas (842-5849), Jerre Fitts (843-3726), or Gilbert Calhoun (783-4959).

Junior- Senior High Bible Study Meets every Sunday at 5:00 - 7:00pm: 

English Country Dancing Meets every Monday at 7:00 in the Fellowship Hall.
