The Collegiate Ensemble

The Collegiate Ensemble is composed of four Western Kentucky University music majors selected by audition to sing in the Chancel Choir. The Ensemble members often perform as soloists during services and concerts, and assist with the Youth Choir.

This important program has been in place for well over thirty years and has seen numerous music students share their talents and learn many of the skills involved in working for the church. These students are required to attend all rehearsals with our Chancel Choir and sing all services when available across the school year.  In addition to singing with the Chancel Choir, our Collegiate Ensemble members are often asked to do solo work in our various services, assist with our children’s music programs, show leadership skills during our annual Liturgical Arts Festival, sing in other Music Ministry events, and occasionally, direct the Chancel Choir in my absence. They are an important part of our Music Ministry and are greatly valued by all of us who have the pleasure of working with them.

English Country Dancing

The Presbyterian Church sponsors a group of English country dancers that meets every Monday night in the Fellowship Hall at 7:00. Enter the church from the 10th Avenue entrance and look for the second door on the right. The dances and instruction by experienced dancers are free.  Wear comfortable clothes and non-marking shoes.  You can bring a partner or come alone.

English country dancing is based on dances collected by John Playford in the many editions of his English Country Dance Master.  The first edition was published in 1658 and provided instructions for many dances popular at the time.  If you have seen any of the movies based on Jane Austin novels, then you have seen dances similar to these.  They include dances that are aerobic, graceful, flirtatious, and/or romantic.  Come join the fun every Monday at the Presbyterian Church.
