Our philosophy

As a ministry of The Presbyterian Church, the PLC seeks to provide a safe, nurturing, Christ-centered educational environment where children and their families feel a sense of support, unity, and acceptance. Our classes are intentionally small (6:2 for 2 year olds, 8:2 in the 3's class and 10:2 in the 4's class) to enable the teachers to focus more on the individual needs and strengths of each child. The PLC was created to give preschool children the best possible start as they begin their school years. Our program was developed over 14 years ago to fill a need for high quality Christian preschool education in our community. At the PLC, children flourish as they experience the joy of learning in a warm and caring place.

At the PLC, our teachers are one of our most important assets. Their most important attribute is an understanding and appreciation for young children and how they learn. We hire the most qualified teachers available. Our teachers have Bachelors Degrees or beyond, as well as experience teaching in public and/or private schools. They continue to attend conferences and classes to enhance their skills.

Parent Reviews:

“My son had the privilege of attending PLC for both the 3s class and the 4s preschool class. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this facility. From the moment my husband and I walked in, we were welcomed and shown around the entire place and it immediately felt like a second home. After 2 years, we were saddened to leave and start our new adventure in Kindergarten, but I couldn’t have asked for a better place to get my son ready. He learned so much, and grew from his great experiences there. The faculty is so nurturing and loving and the amazingly low ratio of 8:2 students/teachers in the 3s to 10:2 students/teachers in the 4s allows them to work with each student individually.

When we went for his Kindergarten screening, he took 3 sections of tests and scored 72/81! They said he did excellent, especially in the “concepts” section where he scored 27 out of 27 where many other kids were scoring 18! I felt so proud, but also so grateful that he had such a great place and teacher the past 2 years! Thank you for everything you have done, I love PLC!!!”

--Christan Curtis

"The Preschool Learning Center has been a great experience for my son. The teachers truly love their jobs and the children. My son has learned things that I had no idea he was capable of grasping at his age. They focus on academics, manners, and of course, fun!"

--Stacy Hixson, parent of 3 yr. old

learning

We believe that a love for learning is one of the most important gifts we can give to any child. We see our role as one of helping children enjoy school while we lay a foundation for the years to come. Throughout each school day we will work with children to help develop the skills that are necessary for success in school, such as:

Self-control

Resolving conflicts appropriately

Taking turns

In addition to these skills, children are engaged in art, music, science, social studies, language arts, math and faith development. The PLC uses the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum. This is the same curriculum adopted by Kentucky public preschools.

Activities

Our classrooms are bright, engaging places filled with the activities of learning. Our teachers know that children grow by experiencing lots of different things, so our days are planned with the needs of active preschoolers in mind. Some of the things our preschoolers may be doing on any given day are:

Art projects

Music

Playtime

Both fine and gross motor activities

Storytime

Computers (there are two stations in each classroom)

Circle time

Snack time

Faith development

Multifaceted

At the PLC we provide a well-rounded program that addresses the many needs that children have.

We hope to instill in children a life-long love of learning by encouraging creativity, using developmentally appropriate methods, and helping children develop new skills when they are ready.

We offer a safe environment where children can play and experience different kinds of resources, materials and equipment.

We encourage children to enjoy school by providing a friendly, nurturing environment. Children are helped to become independent and self-confident while developing friendships and respect for others.

We provide a loving place where children can develop an awareness of God and a love for Jesus.
